If you’re vegetarian or would just like to eat more healthfully, you’ll enjoy having Vegetarian Times arrive in your mailbox on a regular basis.
Although it might be natural for vegetarians to gravitate toward this magazine, it offers something for everyone, including those anywhere on the vegetarian spectrum (from the “sometimes-vegetarians” to strict vegans) and those who just enjoy trying a wide array of foods.
If you are dedicated to a carnivore’s menu, you can still find many tasty and interesting vegetable and grain dishes to go with your meat meals.
Thanks to the great photography, you’re sure to be enticed to make some of the mouthwatering recipes yourself. And if nothing else, the magazine will inspire you to add more fruits, vegetables and whole grains to your regular diet.
But those who favor vegetarian diets are the real winners here. The recipes provide you with new ideas and methods for preparing vegetables in particular, and remind us that vegetables can not only be new and exciting, but they can be delicious as well.
But it’s not all vegetables here. Because this magazine appeals to a vegetarian audience, there’s also an emphasis on delicious “whole” meals. That is, meals that can provide vegetarians (and everyone) with all the nutrients needed without having to add meat to the mal.
Vegetarian Times knows that it’s sometimes hard for vegetarians to get the proper nutrients, so it often makes recommendations for items to add so that you get the right nutritional balance. It also offers recommendations for tasty meat substitutes within its recipes.
Vegetarian Times isn’t just a magazine about food. It’s about a healthy lifestyle in which diet is a central component, but not the only component. This magazine also offers interesting and informative articles on healthy living, alternative medicine, the environment and other resources helpful to vegetarians and those looking for a healthier lifestyle.
Some examples of recipes in Vegetarian Times include salsa verde yellow squash sauté; sweet potato hash and black beans; vegetarian paella; minestrone; and tarragon-leek soup.
We give this magazine four out of five stars, not only for its relatively low subscription price but also for its emphasis on clean living without resorting to fad diets, lots of packaged foods or other impractical health schemes. This is just simple, real advice for home cooks interested in a diet that’s natural and fresh.

Vegetarian Times is a wonder among cooking magazine lovers. For people who are choosing to eat vegetarian style more and more, this magazine is a great place to start your search for recipes. Summer fare is especially good, but fall meals offers delicious, hot veggie delights as well. The Times offers insight on best buys for your kitchen, how to eat well on a budget, and recipes for the health concious too. I love this magazine because the recipes appeal to vegetarians and meat eaters alike. It is packed with easy to follow recipes and enticing photos, and sprinkled with tips for green living, healthy eating and entertaining, and even beauty advice. Each recipe includes nutritional info, and the recipe index tells readers at a glance if a recipe is vegan, dairy or gluten free, low cal, low fat, or quick.
