Food and Wine Magazine

Food & Wine Magazine Review

by: Dan Joseph - CookingZines.com Editor

If you love food and love wine, then you'll love Food and Wine Magazine. Filled with fresh ideas for delectable meals and the newest wines, this magazine is ideal for you if you consider yourself a “foodie” who also loves wine.

Food and Wine Magazine is more than a food magazine, however. Consider it a cooking and lifestyle magazine. It’s about entertaining, creating wonderful food and wine pairings and even fixing the family a quick but delicious meal when in a time crunch.

If you enjoy entertaining, this is a great magazine for you. It's not all snooty, or elaborate entertaining, however. You can certainly do a cocktail party for 40 (and Food and Wine Magazine will give you plenty of ideas for food and wine pairings for that party), but this magazine will also inspire you when you are looking to organize a quick backyard BBQ for you and the neighbors.

The emphasis on entertaining shouldn’t hold back the person who doesn’t entertain much. Many of the recipes designed for entertaining can be adapted to whatever situation you have. It’s important to note out that Food and Wine magazine is about much more than just entertaining.

Food and Wine Magazine is an excellent way to learn more about the world of wine. Whether it be helping you pick the perfect bottle of wine for a special occasion or reading their coverage of the American Wine Awards, there’s a ton of great information about wine.

In Food and Wine Magazine, you’ll also find photography that will make your mouth water, enticing you to make the recipes. Even if you decide not to make them all, you’ll at least enjoy reading about them!

If you enjoy food, but don’t like cooking all the time, check out the restaurant and cooking products reviews, as well as features about food related trips and tours.

Although it might seem at first glance that this magazine is more suited to the advanced chef, the information is presented in such a way that appeals to the novice home cook all the way up to the professional chef looking for new ideas. Most of us fall somewhere in between, so it really spans all skill and interest levels.

It also spans international flavors, providing a tasty look at not just American but also international cuisine. The tips for wine pairings are particularly helpful here, since you might be adventurous enough to make an exotic dish, but have not a clue what wine to have with it.

Some recent recipes featured in the pages of Food and Wine Magazine includes: country chicken and mushroom pie; cinnamon cake with chile-chocolate buttercream; grilled tuna with fresh herbs and sesame seeds; and spicy roast chicken. All recipes are accompanied by suggestions for wine pairings.

We give Food and Wine five out of five stars for its full bouquet of information about wine, food, and living the “good life”.

Mmmmmmmm - that inself says everything I could think to say about this magazine. The first time I picked it up, it was as a gift for a stuffy old aunt. Needless to say, cracking it open and discovering the treasures inside was a gift for me! Catching up on my favorite chefs from around the country is a nice feature, but I really like the common sensibility the magazine offers to those of us who are not necessarily "connoisseurs." I can easily choose a wine to go with the grill, or with a summer salad. The recipes are amazing, and with a little tweaking, most are very heart healthy and calorie conscious. I really enjoy the restaurants and travel section too.

I always have a dog-eared issue of this magazine on my kitchen counter! I love the recipes, which cover everything from easy to exotic, and the wine-pairing suggestions near the recipe index are so helpful. The magazine is serious about good food and wine, but doesn't take itself too seriously. The articles on travel, trends, and wine are fun and informative with vibrant photos, and the menu suggestions make entertaining a breeze. Diana D – Cincinnati, OH
