Fans of Rachael Ray are sure to be fans of her self-titled magazine, Everyday with Rachael Ray.

Full of the infectious personality that has made Ray a household name for most of us (thanks to her television show, her many bestselling books, her Food Network shows, and now this magazine), Everyday with Rachael Ray encourages and enlightens us about cooking and eating.

This is a food magazine whose emphasis is truly on food. Everything relates back to food – how to serve it, what to serve it on, where to get the best specialty foods, where you can get a dream “foodie” weekend, and of course, the numerous recipes you expect.

Let’s start with the recipes. If you are a fan of recipes with many steps, a long list of ingredients and specific instructions, this might not be the magazine for you. Like Rachael’s show and books, these recipes call for a few “turns” about the pan with the EVOO (Rachael’s shorthand for extra-virgin olive oil). The recipes have the loose feel we have come to expect from Rachael.

Because we all know Rachael to be the crusader of “30 minute recipes”, you can expect plenty of that in her magazine. You can also expect some silly names for recipes, since we also know Rachael to be silly with these. Some recent recipes included: that’s shallotta flavor spaghetti; humungo hamburger; banana chocolate cones; winter vegetable curry in a hurry, poor man’s gumbo and mashed potato stuffed chicken.

Because Rachael likes to entertain, she encourages us to do the same, offering tips for “instant” parties and reminding us that things don’t have to be perfect.

Unlike many cooking magazines, Everyday with Rachael Ray doesn’t forget that many of us are living busy lives that leave little time for cooking. But we still want to provide a tasty, nourishing meal each night. In each issue, Everyday with Rachael Ray offers 10 new 30-minute meals, along with a 7-day pull-out shopping and cooking guide. Many more recipes and tips are also scattered throughout the magazine, usually exceeding 100 per issue.

Even though Ray makes no secret of her inability to bake, she does offer many recipes for simple deserts that even the most challenged cook can pull off with ease.

We give Everyday with Rachael Ray four out of five stars. This magazine is a newcomer to the crowded magazine scene but still ranks among the best. It was named in Advertising Age’s annual “A list” in 2007, a list that names the top magazines of the year.

If you’re a home cook who has limited time, but wants to make tasty meals (or those that rank high on Rachael’s “yum-o!” scale), this might be the ideal magazine for you.

Rachel Ray's magazine ensures that even the novice cook can prepare a delicious home cooked meal in minutes. Wonderful instructions on how to prepare meals in minutes for the whole family are included. Prepare specialty foods from around the world from various cultures. This is a great magazine for preparing meals for the family, but not so great if you're on a diet staying away from something special and need specific nutritional information. If you like cooking quick, small step meals then this is the magazine for you. Samantha A – Whitsett, NC

It's a good basic magazine and if you're a fan of her show, you'd like it. Rachel Ray's magazine also features recipes to make pet treats, which would appeal to readers who love to cook and have pets. However, I'd like to see the magazine add basic nutritional information since many families are watching calories, fat and fiber. There's also too much emphasis on shopping guides, which makes it seem more like Oprah's magazine at times. Anne-Marie – Colorado
