Cookbook Digest Magazine Review

by: Dan Joseph - CookingZines.com Editor

Are you one of those people who like to read movie reviews and watch trailers before you decide whether you want to see the actual movie? Do you itch to get a sneak preview of a film you just can’t wait to see? Well, imagine Cookbook Digest does trailers, except that...it’s with food instead!

Cookbook Digest gives honest and professional reviews of best-selling cookbooks as they enter the market. This is really useful as it means that you get to ‘try before you buy’ – sample delicious recipes from the best cookbooks before you buy them. It’s like taking a sip of several wines before deciding which ones you want to buy!

Cookbook Digest will bring out the culinary enthusiast in you. In every issue, the magazine offers over 45 recipes from a wide variety of cookbooks. These range from seasonal recipes to gourmet cuisines to the simple-and-everyday. For lunch, you could be cooking a fine regional American cuisine. Turn the page and it’s French cuisine for dinner. Two continents in your kitchen in only 6 hours! Almost makes me feel like a world traveller!

The magazine also offers reviews of new kitchen equipment. With as good as their cookbook reviews are, you can bet it’s the place to look if you’re thinking of buying kitchen equipment or gadgets. It allows you to make an informed decision about what to buy and what to absolutely avoid.

Cookbook Digest has been around for a long time, building credibility, respect and authority in the 25 years it’s been publishing. However, it’s a bit tricky to get hold of on newstands, so it’s best to get an annual subscription so you can enjoy it.

Considering Cookbook Digest has been around for such a while and shares wonderful snippets of the best-selling new cookbooks, the annual subscription price is a good deal for everything that you get inside each issue.

Cookbook digest is a great place for me to find new recipes. Typically it has more recipes per magazine than any of my other subscriptions. While many of these recipes are repeats or variations on very common recipes there are usually a few I haven't heard of. I have a whole binder filled with clipped out recipes from this magazine and it works as a pretty decent cookbook for me.
